Smiley face for drivers in Menston

New speed deviceA new Speed Indicator Device has been kindly bought by Menston Parish Council for the use of the local police to use in our village. It is mobile and can be moved to suitable locations, where required. The device can be set at various speeds and gives a smiley face if the vehicle is driving under the limit.  The local police will use it in conjunction with speedwatch and drivers over the limit will be sent letters advising them of their speed.

The pictures shows PCSO Darrin Thompson, Cllr Peter Finlay and PS Jo Beecroft

Off-track aircraft over Menston

Village residents have recently brought to my attention (as your representative on the Airport Consultative Committee) concerns that aircraft are straying outside the Noise Preferential Routing.  As previously reported, the compliance with the NPR has been good (better than 96%) over the winter months.  That still means 4% off-track, but when the level of air traffic has been low and only about 25 flights per day coming off Runway 32, that might amount to 7 flights per week (or 1 per day on average) flying over Menston residences.  That's still 7 too many!

Cornerstone Cafe - Menston Methodist Church

It is almost three years since Cornerstone opened, manned completely by volunteers from local churches and the community. Since that time it has become an extremely popular meeting place and we are now looking to build on our team of helpers (male or female), either in food preparation, in serving customers or as cashiers. This would involve a session of 2-3 hours a fortnight (or even once a month).
