2017 Festival Weekend at St John's
As part of Menston's on-going remembrance of the First World War, St John's Church will be hosting a special weekend commemorating the Battle of Passchendaele, which took place July-November 1917.
A small committee has met and plans are underway to organise a weekend which involves as many people as possible in the village, in as many ways as possible.
Your ideas, suggestions and offers of help will be most welcome!
We are hoping to create one or two features in the churchyard and a WW1 trench is already being planned. The memorial stone of Wilfred Jennings, a Menston lad who died right at the end of the war, will also be highlighted. Other ideas would be welcomed.
A Flower Festival will run throughout the weekend. We need lots of help so if you are interested in creating an arrangement please contact Ann Hill (number below). You don't need to be an expert as help will be available. A meeting of interested flower arrangers will be held later this year.
On the Saturday evening, we are planning musical entertainment from the period.
We are looking to borrow interesting WW1 artefacts for the weekend. If you have any then please contact Judith Knaggs (number below).
If any individual or business is able to sponsor a flower arrangement, please contact Jan Alexander (number below). Sponsors names would be included in the programme and invited to a Preview Evening.
Funds raised will be divided between The Royal British Legion and St John's.
Please contact any of the committee with offers of help or ideas.
