High Royds Memorial Garden Open Day

The Memorial Garden and Chapel on Buckle Lane will be open on Saturday 10th September (11am-1pm and 2pm-4pm) and Sunday 11th September (11am-1pm and 2pm-4pm). A special service of Thanksgiving will be held in the Chapel at 4pm on the Sunday.

The inter-denominational service will be led by the Revd. Jason McCullagh, the Minister for the Burley and Otley United Reformed Churches. Other local people will participate and the choir will be provided by members of the Ladies Please choral group.

All are welcome to visit the chapel and garden, which is open as part of the Leeds Heritage Open Days 2016.

All are also welcome to join in the service which, whilst remembering the former patients and staff of High Royds, will also give thanks for the many people who have helped restore the once neglected and derelict chapel, paupers' graveyard and wood.

The Memorial Garden is a three acre project, once described as 'a disgrace to the neighbourhood', which has now been praised by Yorkshire in Bloom as 'a real gem - a gem capable of even greater development'.

The project, with the aid of a Tesco 'Bags of Appeal' grant, has seen much work put in this year by many people, including year 9 and 10 students from St Mary's Catholic Voluntary Academy.

We look forward to seeing you there.
