Menston Summer Fair

Menston Summer Fair will be held at Menston Primary School from 2 pm - 4:30 pm on 2 July, organised by St John's Church. The fun event will be opened by Look North's Charlotte Leeming, and there will be lots of traditional stalls and games - games, tombola, plants, bric a brac, and books.

The winners of the ‘Menston & Burley Young Poet of the Year‘ and ‘Menston and Burley Young Short Story Writer of the Year' will be announced at 3pm and some of the winning pieces will be read by their authors. The Buttercross Belles from Otley will be performing Morris Dancing and music will be provided by Hurricane Blue. The Summer Fair draw will take place at 4pm.

The event is to raise money for 3 charities:

Tiyanjane Clinic in Malawi. The clinic is run by Dr Jane Bates, daughter of a member of St John's congregation, and provides palliative care and support for patients with HIV/Aids and other problems. The clinic was developed in response to the perceived gap between hospital discharge and an unsupported home environment.

A Health care project in Myanmar (Burma) run by Us (one of the main Anglican Mission Agencies working overseas, previously known as USPG). The project aims to train and send out volunteer health workers to rural villages that don't have access to doctors or hospitals.

And locally, the Otley Christian Resources Hub which runs the Open the Book Project. Under this project a team of amateur thespians from St John’s goes into Menston Primary School each week and helps bring to life some of the well-known Bible stories for Key Stage 1 children.

St John’s is currently raising £1000 for Tiyanjane Clinic, £2500 for Us in Myanmar and £1000 for the Otley Christian Resources Hub every year.

Please join us to help raise funds for these worthwhile causes whilst enjoying a good day out!
