Flooding in Menston

Heavy rainfall has once again resulted in flooding problems in Menston, adding weight to the campaign by Menston Action Group against housing developments in Menston. The next significant step in their campaign is the Judicial Review of the proposed Chartford Homes development on land at Bingley Road. This is to be held on Friday 8th January. Further details will be available on the MAG website.

Regarding the most recent problems, the Floods Minister, Rory Stewart, has told Bradford Council it will be reimbursed 100% for any costs incurred as a result of the flooding – in the same deal that was given to Cumbria when they were first affected.

He also promised that the Shipley constituency would be fully included in a review starting straight away – in conjunction with the Environment Agency – about what defences are required for the future across Yorkshire and Lancashire.

David Green, Leader of Bradford Council, has been assured the uninsured homes and businesses would qualify for the government recovery scheme offered in Cumbria and elsewhere and details will be available soon.
