Menston Cricket Club needs your help!

25/09/2014

The village’s cricket club is in desperate need of some help from the local community. The club has had a mixed season on the field, and off the field we are in need for local people and businesses to come forward to help secure the club’s immediate and longer-term future. You can help the club in a number of ways:

1. Vote for us to receive £500 from Skipton Building Society’s ‘Grass Roots Giving’ programme. Voting is open until 30 September 2014 and can be done by visiting the website below and entering your email address at the bottom of the webpage: http://www.skiptongrg.co.uk/apply-for-funding/whos-applying/yorkshire-and-the-humber/menston-cricket-club/

2. Use ‘Easyfundraising’ every time you shop on-line at stores such as Amazon, John Lewis, Waitrose, Argos and Marks & Spencer etc (there are over 2,700 retailers). Every time you use ‘easyfundraising’, a donation is made to Menston Cricket Club as your chosen beneficiary and there is no cost to you. For more details and to sign up, go to: http://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/how-it-works/

3. Hire out our clubhouse for an event e.g. birthday party or other social event. Currently local business Mighty Chefs use our clubhouse once a month to teach children how to cook, so it would be great if other businesses or individuals were to join Mighty Chefs in using our facilities, particularly in the autumn and winter months when cricket is not being played. Please send an email to menstoncc@btinternet.com should you wish to book an event at the club.

4. Make a monetary donation to the club; this can be ‘Gift Aided’ so that your money goes further. We are in particular need of some funding to help improve our facilities and to address our ‘pond problem’ – currently one corner of our ground is under water and we don’t have the funds to sort the problem out. We want to use that corner as a training area, especially for junior players, but this is impossible at the moment. Again, please send an email to menstoncc@btinternet.com should you wish to make a donation.

5. Sponsorship. If you are a local business wishing to get more exposure in the local community, please consider some of the following options: • Sponsor boards • Shirt sponsorship (both junior and senior teams) • Match ball sponsorship • Fixture booklet sponsorship. Rates start from as little as £25 and we are happy to discuss various options, together with your business’s requirements.

6. Volunteer to fill one of the vacancies on our Executive Committee. The club is run by a handful of people who also have very busy work and family lives; the workload needs to be spread amongst more willing volunteers. With this in mind, we have a number of vacancies on our committee, as follows: • Chairman • Head of Facilities • Head of Fundraising • Sponsorship Co-ordinator • Pavilion Manager. Currently all of the above work is being done by three people who already have other responsibilities. We need more volunteers to help us out and even if you don’t think you can commit much time, we’d still like to hear from you to see what you can contribute. Please seriously consider helping us out; our club provides various opportunities for young people to take part in an outdoor summer sport and we’d like to improve our offering whilst also ensuring that we can survive in the near future.

Please get in touch about any of the above items, either by email at menstoncc@btinternet.com or alternatively telephone me directly on 07815851097. With kind regards, Paul Smith Club Secretary Menston Cricket Club @MenstonCricket on twitter.com
